Very early 1937 Dutch industrial telephone table by Gispen the Netherlands.
This pre-war side table was used as a telephone table. It features a steel tubular frame, a glass shelf and a linofelt (rubber like material) coated top. This 80 years old table is in good condition for its age with some traces of use to the metal frame and top. Beautiful early Dutch design.
Gispen is one of the most important furniture manufacturers of the Dutch industrial design era. Founded in 1916 by W.H. Gispen, the company started working on tubular furniture for office and home interiors. Later Dutch top designers Wim Rietveld, Coen de Vries and A.R. Cordemeyer joined. Many designs are now considered design classics, like the Giso floor, pendant, desk and table lamps. Or the 447 sofa, 412 lounge chair and 201 dining chair.
