Early Dutch industrial design by Gipsen, the Netherlands. This model 501/3601 side or coffee table was made by Gispen in 1954. The table features a tubular metal frame with a wooden top with a coating called linofelt (a rubber like material).
Table is in good condition with some traces of age to the metal frame and traces of use to the linofelt coating on top.
Gispen is one of the most important furniture manufacturers of the Dutch industrial design era. Founded in 1916 by W.H. Gispen, the company started working on tubular furniture for office and home interiors. Later Dutch top designers Wim Rietveld, Coen de Vries and A.R. Cordemeyer joined. Many designs are now considered design classics, like the Giso floor, pendant, desk and table lamps. Or the 447 sofa, 412 lounge chair and 201 dining chair.
